John asked for a Italian themed cake for his beautiful girlfriend’s 30th birthday. He asked if I could make a cake that looked just like a pan of spagetti meatball and loved the idea of a ‘suspended’ pasta ladle lifting the pasta and sauce up. The red gingham cloth was an extra detail to add authenticity.

This cake was a joy to make, working out how to get the sauce to look thick and glossy, the meatballs (chocolate cake pops) to look meaty and textured, the sugarpaste pasta to fall realistically was so creatively interesting I could have sat there all week playing with it!

I think i’ll definitely be looking to create more food illusion cakes as I enjoyed this so much.
